Chris Woltmann's music has been performed, in this country and in Europe, by ensembles such as Talujon, Magic Circle Opera, Nieuwe Oogst and the Manhattan Brass Quintet. He has been Composer in Residence and Assistant Conductor for the Magic Circle Chamber Opera, for which he conducted the staged premiere of Ned Rorem's Hearing and re-orchestrated Bizet's Carmen for an eighteen-piece chamber ensemble, a production which enjoyed a three-week run at the LaMama theater in New York City. He has collaborated with choreographers Robert A. Altman, Jeffrey Bauer, Bryan Hayes, Elke Rindfleisch and Olga Tragant, and the resulting pieces have had performances in and around New York City as well as several European dance festivals. Playing the electric guitar in his own ensemble, Chris Woltmann and Company, he has been exploring slowly-shifting sound masses and the effects of repetitive phrases of differing lengths played simultaneously.

Chris received a Bachelor's degree in Composition from the Manhattan School of Music where he studied with Erik Lundborg, Giampaolo Bracali, Ronald Caltabiano and Joel Feigin. He is a cofounder of Music Under Construction.
